Wherever
we live, our neighborhood, suburb, town, county is, or is
quickly becoming, a melting pot of people of different colors
and cultures. This presents a distinct challenge and
opportunity to our churches and institutions. Unfortunately,
good intentions alone “to reach out into our community” are
doomed to failure as evidenced by the many once flourishing
congregations in our metropolitan areas which ultimately closed
their doors because of changing populations. In good Law-Gospel
fashion as Lutherans, we must squarely face the problem … and
the problem, plain and simple, is racism.

Refocus
ReFocus
reminds us that God is at work
teaching and equipping us throughout a lifetime of ministry and
service. It reminds us how God alone calls, equips and prepares
us for service to Him, service to the Church and service to the
world. By the power of the Gospel, He revitalizes individuals
and uses them to renew congregations in the service of the
Gospel — with an eye to the harvest which Jesus tells us is
ready. Jesus calls us to pray for workers for the harvest, and ReFocus is about God preparing His workers for harvest work. It
is all about the Gospel and its power in the lives of people and
congregations.
ReFocusing
is essentially an 18-30
month revitalization process that produces harvest-focused
churches led by church leaders committed to vision and the
raising up of leaders. Its leadership development process is
designed to help pastors; lay leaders and their churches bring
strategic focus to their lives and ministries.
