Science Philosophy Statement
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Heb 11:3
In faith, God encourages His people to grow in wisdom, understanding, and the knowledge necessary to care for His creation.
This understanding serves as the foundation for students and teachers to practice the essential skills and knowledge needed to be scientifically literate citizens of the 21st century.
The science curriculum is designed around the belief that God created the universe and continues to reign, and that He commands His children to “work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2: 15. In this light, students will interpret scientific data and develop a fervor to care for the world in accordance with God’s Word.
Through inquiry, technology, process application, and practice, students will discover the natural laws by which God preserves His creations. Through hands-on and minds-on experiences, they will observe the wonders and miracles of God’s world.
The science curriculum allows students to investigate God’s world through the principles and interconnections of the Life, Physical, and Earth/Space sciences. Instruction will encourage students not only to learn the ‘content’, but also to apply the content to their daily lives, their society, and the world in which they live.
Since scientific process skills are life-long learning skills, this curriculum balances the concept of teaching product through process. These are the skills used to solve problems. They are the foundation for inquiry in science and are learned through active hands-on and minds-on experiences. Therefore, the students will be given opportunities to demonstrate and deepen their understanding and practice science skills for the future, such as:
Observing
Classifying
Communicating
Measuring
Predicting
Inferring
Identifying and controlling variables
Formulating and testing hypotheses
Interpreting data
Defining operationally
Experimenting
Constructing models
Students will develop a conviction that they play a role in, and have an impact on the world God has given them, and that decisions made today affect the future. These foundations inspire us to give glory to God, our Lord and Maker, today and through all generations.
How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all;
May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord rejoice in His works.
Psalm 104:24 & 31
