Seventh Grade

 

 

Goal I:  Basic operations and concepts

 

 

Learning Standard  A:  Demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.

 

Objective 1:  Learn and use correct computer terminology

Objective 2:  Demonstrate proper use and care of hardware, software, and media storage

Objective 3:  Identify computer hardware and peripherals and their functions (i.e. keyboard, mouse, monitor, DVD/CD Rom drive, scanner, USB port, floppy drive, flash drive, etc.)

Objective 4:  Develop basic trouble shooting skills (i.e. check if computer, monitor, and printer are on, check your login, and understand common error messages)

Objective 5:  Know how to open, save, and print a file to/ from different locations (i.e. local computer, portable storage device, and the network)

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Develop proficiency in the use of technology.

 

Objective 1:  Use software from various curricular areas and sources

Objective 2:  Navigate between several open programs

Objective 3:  Develop drawing skills and integrate graphics with text and sound

Objective 4:  Find or search for files and folders

Objective 5:  Demonstrate use of file management skills including organizing files and folders

Objective 6:  Use online help

Objective 7:  Import and export data between applications

 


Goal II:  Social, ethical, and human issues

 

 

Learning Standard A:  Understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.

 

Objective 1:  Respect the privacy of other students’ data and work space 

Objective 2:  Read, sign, and understand an Acceptable Use policy

Objective 3:  Adhere to current copyright laws and understand that illegally copying software or other files is stealing

Objective 4:  Understand plagiarism and its consequences and properly credit sources

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.

 

Objective 1:  Leave computer desktop and physical workspace ready for next user

Objective 2:  Use technology responsibly for school related projects

Objective 3:  Implement safe use of technology (i.e. Internet, flash drives, outside CD Rom, and floppy files) in order to prevent corruption of files

 

 

Learning Standard C:  Develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.

 

Objective 1:  Follow teacher’s computer directions and rules

Objective 2:  Identify uses of technology in the community

Objective 3:  Collaborate with others to investigate curriculum related issues

Objective 4:  Understand that technology is a lifetime tool for research, communication, and productivity

 

 


 Goal III:  Technology productivity tools

 

 

Learning Standard A:  Use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.

 

Objective 1:  Perform touch typing using proper technique at 15 – 25 WPM and 85 – 95% accuracy

Objective 2:  Learn how to use spell check, grammar check, and thesaurus and understand their limitations

Objective 3:  Create, edit, and format documents using a word processing application

Objective 4:  Use painting and drawing tools

Objective 5:  Generate original graphics using advanced editing tools

Objective 6:  Use supplemental technology hardware (i.e. LCD projector, hand held devices, smartboard, scientific instruments, digital camera, scanner)

Objective 7:  Create, format, and enter data into a spreadsheet document

Objective 8:  Use formulas and functions to synthesize spreadsheet data

Objective 9:  Generate simple charts using spreadsheet data

Objective 10:  Manipulate charts using spreadsheet data

Objective 11:  Create, search, and sort a database

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, preparing publications, and producing other creative works.

 

Objective 1:  Use formatting techniques to enhance documents (i.e.- fonts, style, size, etc.)

Objective 2:  Create curricular projects and presentations (i.e.- book reports, research reports, self-authored books)

Objective 3:  Apply basic design principles when creating publications

Objective 4:  Use page layout techniques to create publications

 

 

 


Goal IV:  Technology communication tools

 

 

Learning Standard A:  Use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.

 

Objective 1:  View/ participate in Webcasts

Objective 2:  Use adult monitored communications (i.e.- email and weblogs)

Objective 3:  Experience collaborative learning through the internet with other students and experts

Objective 4:  Use a web browser to navigate the internet

Objective 5:  Participate in distance learning

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

 

Objective 1:  Create, modify, and enhance slide shows using sound, animations, and transitions

Objective 2:  Present slide shows using digital video projection, handouts, and notes

Objective 3:  Create a video presentation or movie

Objective 4:  Generate simple web pages

Objective 5:  Publish created web pages to the internet

 

 


Goal V:  Technology research tools

 

 

Learning Standard A:  Use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

 

Objective 1:  Use a variety of search engines to locate information

Objective 2:  Use electronic reference tools (i.e.- encyclopedia, dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, CD-ROMS, Library card catalog, and internet)

Objective 3:  Evaluate a website for content, bias, appropriateness

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Use technology tools to process data and report results.

 

Objective 1:  Create charts and/or graphs to report results

Objective 2:  Use word processing and slide show presentation software

Objective 3:  Use spreadsheet and database applications to compile data

Objective 4:  Format acquired data to be incorporated into other applications

 

 

Learning Standard C:  Evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.

 

Objective 1:  Explore advancements in technology (such as wireless technology, PDAs, GPS devices, etc.)

Objective 2:  Compare information from various sources

Objective 3:  Evaluate information sources for validity and usefulness

 

 


Goal VI:  Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools

 

 

Learning Standard A:  Use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions.

 

Objective 1:  Select and apply appropriate technologies for various tasks

Objective 2:  Create graphic organizers to facilitate the decision making process

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Employ technology in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.

 

Objective 1:  Use teacher-selected websites to gather information needed to solve real-life problems
