Committee
DESC is comprised of one advisor from each of several
regions plus a Curriculum Coordinator, the Technology Committee
chairman, an Early Childhood representative, and the School
Visitation and Accreditation Coordinator. The committee meets
four times a year.

The Objectives of DESC are to:
-
increase input to the District Education office
for better understanding of the needs of schools and teachers.
-
affirm the ministries of congregations, staff,
and individual teachers with special attention to beginning
teachers.

encourage effective leadership with special
attention to new principals.
-
increase communication among the schools and the
district office.
-
promote cooperation among and between schools in
a region.
-
give continued guidance to schools as they
progress in the self-study process aimed toward accreditation.
-
encourage non-Synodically trained teachers
to participate in the colloquy program.
The Guidelines for DESC are:
-
The Committee is to concern itself with matters
that will serve the best interests of the ministries of Lutheran
Schools of the Northern Illinois District.

Appointments to the Committee are to be made by
the District Education Executive.

The exact function of each representative depends
to some extent on the needs and specific characteristics of the
region. Regional meetings of teachers and principals is
encouraged.

Representatives are to assure that visits are
made to the schools of the region. The nature of those
visits may vary, especially as accreditation status may dictate.

Representatives shall receive reimbursement for
travel expenses to meetings if they submit an expense voucher.
-
Representatives may provide proposals to the
Education Executive, thus assisting in the direction of the
Lutheran Schools in Northern Illinois.
General Qualifications for Members of DESC are:
-
Certified teacher in the State of Illinois.
-
Respected by principals and teachers.
-
Understands the Accreditation process.
-
Current understanding of and competence in observation skills.
-
Strong communication skills.
-
Demonstrated leadership.
