Phonemic awareness

 

Objective 1:  Recognize rhyming patterns within the context of oral and written language.

 

Objective 2:  Identify and blend phonemes.

 

Objective 3:  Develop the use of onsets and rimes.

 

Objective 4:  Apply blending, segmenting, and substituting to decipher words.

 

Phonics

 

Objective 5:  Develop the use of sound/symbol relationships.

II.  Literature

 

State Goal:  As a result of their schooling, students will be able to read and understand literature representative of various societies, eras, and ideas.

 

Learning Standard A:  Understand how literary elements and techniques are used to convey meaning.

 

Objective 1:  Retell stories and events using a beginning, middle, and end.

 

Objective 2:  Identify literary elements of theme, setting, plot, and character.

 

Objective 3:  Describe the difference between prose, poetry, and plays.

 

Objective 4:  Classify literary works as fiction or nonfiction.

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Read and interpret a variety of literary works.

 

Objective 1:  Recognize different styles of several major children’s authors and illustrators. 

 

Objective 2:  Respond to literary materials by connecting them to personal experience.

 

Objective 3:  Communicate in written and/or verbal form connections to stories, themes,

and authors.

 

Objective 4:  Identify common themes in literature from a variety of time periods and cultures.

III.  Written Communication

IV.  Oral Communication

 

State Goal:  As a result of their schooling, students will be able to listen and speak effectively in a variety of situations.

 

Learning Standard A:  Listen effectively in formal and informal situations.

 

Objective 1:  Listen attentively by facing the speaker, making eye contact, and paraphrasing what is said.

 

Objective 2:  Listen for a specific purpose.

 

Objective 3:  Ask and respond to questions from the teacher and from group members to improve comprehension.

 

Objective 4:  Follow oral instructions accurately.

 

Objective 5:  Use visually and auditory based media.

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Speak effectively using language appropriate to the situation and audience.

 

Objective 1:  Present brief oral reports with language and vocabulary appropriate to the message and audience using the following behaviors:

Learning Standard A:  Locate, organize, and use information from various sources to answer questions, solve problems, and communicate ideas.

 

Objective 1:  Identify questions and gather information.

 

Objective 2:  Locate information using a variety of resources including:

·        Encyclopedia

·        Teacher bookmarked Internet websites

·        Nonfiction text

·        Word and picture dictionaries

·        Maps and atlases

·        Bible

 

Objective 3:  Apply alphabetical order to the second letter when locating information.

 

 

Learning Standard B:  Analyze and evaluate information acquired from various sources.

 

Objective 1:  Select and organize information from various sources for a specific purpose.

 

Objective 2:  Use key words to locate relevant information.

 

Objective 3:  Discriminate between relevant/irrelevant information.
